Evaluation of cardioprotective and/or antiarrhythmic compounds in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion or preconditioning in isolated rat and mouse heart models or in in vivo anesthetized rat models.
Measurements: cardiac function, infarct size, arrhythmias, enyzme release, high energy phosphates, histomorphology, electrophysiology, biochemical analysis of heart tissue and perfusate for any targets of your choice.

Assessment of the antioxidant efficacy of cardiovascular drugs by means of direct detection of oxygen free radicals and nitric oxide with electron spin resonance spectroscopy in ischemia/reperfusion.
Measurements: oxygen free radical production (electron resonance spectroscopy, HPLC), pro- and antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, GPX, CAT, NOS, XOR, NADH oxidases, etc)

Chronic heart failure induced by chronic in vivo coronary artery occlusion for evaluation of chronic administration of cardioprotective drugs.
Measurements: cardiac function in  working hearts isolated from rats subjected to in vivo coronary artery occlusion, infarct size, histomorphologic changes.

Evaluation of compounds acting on the NO-cGMP system and peroxynitrite formation, e.g. peroxynitrite scavengers
Measurements: Measurements: NO (electron spin resonance spectroscopy), nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activities, cGMP production, superoxide formation, peroxynitrite formation (nitrotyrosine ELISA, immunohistochemistry), in vitro peroxynitrite scavenger assays (dityrosine assay).

Effects of cardioprotective compounds on myocardial ischemia, preconditioning, and vascular functions in hyperlipidemia/atherosclerosis (cholesterol-diet), nitrate-tolerance, and diabetes (STZ) models.
Measurements: plasma lipids, cardiac function, infarct size, myocardial enzyme release, histomorphologic changes, electrohpysiology, and any biochemical parameters in rat and rabbit models of experimental hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and nitrate-tolerance.

Evaluation of cardiac heat-shock protein (HSP) inducers.
Measurements: cardiac hsp mRNA and HSP protein contents after ischemia/reperfusion or heat stress.

Evaluation of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitors.
Measurements: MMP and TIMP activities and protein contens in vivo and ex vivo. In vitro MMP inhibition assays.
